Alive and kicking in bonnie Scotland. True, there are fewer of us in Scotland now. We're not feeling the Cameron effect north of the border - any ideas why not?

Scottish and British and proud to be both!

Well, it's nice to know you're still around!

I DO like Malcolm Rifkind- he always seems like a top geezer- even though he's a tory.....

and a Jock!!!!

(*takes cover- yes, it WAS a joke, ok???*)

Not surprisingly you like Riffers Sokeboy, he's very English!! Michael Forsyth was an excellent Scottish Tory as was Sir Teddy Taylor. My favourite English MP, now Boris is no longer on the green benches, has to be that Fabricant dude - he's very English, is he not?!!

Those who know more about the decline of the Scots Tories say that the right-wing in Scotland is further to the right than the same constituency in England. So the One Nation, soft right vote is not so Conservative in Scotland for some reason. We don't do things by halves.

The media in Scotland is certainly more left wing, and nationalist, than in England. I think the last great Scots Tory was Michael Forsyth, economically and constitutionally sound and a very good career politician.

Thatcher's Anglo-Irish, or Anglo-Celtic if you prefer (!), agreement was also a major reason for the Tory vote collapsing in Scotland.

I thought Sir Malcolm was Scottish. Am I truly mistaken in that assumption?

No you're right, he is Scottish. But very English in his character and mannerisms - a typical Edinburgh lawyer.

Now I know that this question may be better in another thread....

...but why don't the Tories in Scotland back independence?

It may further rejuvenate your party on BOTH sides of the Border.

The traditional commitment to the Union is, in my humble opinion, the Conservative 'Clause Four'.

Why not argue for abolition of the Union and put forward plans for a NEW agreement for the nations of our Islands (ROI included)- something like the Nordic Council?

Just a thought. I look foward to any replies I may receive to my suggestion,=.
