Default BBC TV Licence

Watching Question Time on Thursday Nigal Farage signalled he wanted the BBC to return to public service broadcasting. He suggests he doesn't mind paying for a licence, just that £39 rather than £139 would be more appropriate. What do you think? Personally I feel there's an awful lot of programmes which could simply be taken up by the commercial sector. Presenters such as Johnathon Ross should not be paid so much of our money for light entertainment. If the commercial channels think he's worth that, they'll pay for it.

The only reason we should have a licence fee, is for important public services that commercial channels cannot financially provide for.

A complete waste of money given the bias shown, especially in recent weeks, by the Beeb. What's worse, they admit to being biassed. I'll bet Lord Reith is turning faster and faster in his grave.

Privatise the BBC...now!!!!!

Why should I have to pay for my own indocrination??

I have no TV and I live prerfectly happily.

However, when I made my decision to rid myself of my TV I got loads of horrid letters from TVL. This turned me from someone who generally supported the BBC and Licence fee into a total anti-BBC/licence fee person.

Well done BBC and TVL!

I tried to write to TVL but they ignored my letters. I tried to phone them, but they ignored my calls.

Finally, when the TVL goon came to my little flat, I asked him if he had a search warrant. Of course, he didn't so I asked him to leave my doorstep! He could do nothing else but comply.

These nasty b***ards bully the most vunerable in our society (eg single mums), making them feel guilty until proven innocent, and extract fines out of them where possible.

STAND UP TO THEM. F*** THE BBC AND TELLY TAX!!

I'm uncertain as to where I stand. At University, I don't bother with a TV, and I too have been the recipient of numerous threatening letters, which I have ignored.

I don't mind paying a liscense fee generally because I feel that the quality of broadcasting is still quite reasonable. I detest Jonathan Ross, but then I never watch him. However, programs like Have I got News for you, Mock the Week, Question Time, Panorama, Horizon and (for my playful side) Dr Who are worth the money I think. If there were a proper shake-up of the Beeb, then I think it more than possible that a lot of great programming could be produced with the money they have.

They should scrap it or reduce it, then their new agenda should be finding talent and putting out shows, which private companies can come along and buy the rights to and then use the money to locate further talent. At the moment they just sort of make anything they like, don't need to answer to anyone and don't need to worry about money. Hell if they did it right I bet England could probably become a new hotbed of TV talent, rather than any upcoming actors being eaten alive by the socialist dinosaur we call the BBC. :P
